Hello There!
Summer has arrived… it’s HOT and going to get HOTTER! If you’ve never experienced West Tennessee humidity, you don’t know what you’re missing.😊
Of course, I’ll never forget stepping off that C-141 in Panama, Central America. The heat hits you in the face like a ton of bricks there, so I am thankful for Tennessee.

Ah Memories… I digress…
As we continue our journey planning the whole Semi Homesteaders setup and preparing to transition into our homesteading journey, we’ve been thinking a lot about the essential tools that will help us find that balance between modern life and old-fashioned skills. While big equipment like the Kubota BX23S tractor I wrote about previously is important, sometimes it’s the tool you always have on you that makes the biggest difference. For me, that’s a Leatherman multi-tool.
Think of it like a toolbox on the go. Whether you’re working on the future barndominium, tackling everyday fixes, or pulling out the inevitable splinter, having a versatile tool at your fingertips is invaluable.
My personal go-to, and the one that’s become a constant pocket companion, is the Leatherman Wave®+. It’s a real powerhouse with 18 tools packed into a compact design! Multi-tools often start with pliers and add useful implements like a knife and screwdrivers, and the Wave®+ is not short on this, making it incredibly useful for a wide range of tasks you encounter on a homestead. It falls under categories like Home, Outdoor, Work, and Everyday Essentials – basically, all the places you find yourself on a homestead!

But the Wave®+ isn’t the only Leatherman that fits the homesteading lifestyle. I know folks with other models that are also excellent choices, fitting various needs and preferences, many of which are categorized for activities like Home, Outdoor, Work, Camp, Preparedness, Do-It-Yourself, and taking care of that occasional hang-nail.
- The Surge® is another bestseller with even more tools, boasting 21 functions. Nice but a little hefty for my pocket.
- The Signal® is advertised for outdoor use like camping and bushcraft, and comes in cool colors.
- The Rebar® is another bestseller listed with 17 tools.
- For something lighter, the Skeletool® is a practical choice, some weighing 5 oz. or less. Models like the Skeletool® CX and the standard Skeletool® are pretty cool.

Choosing the right multi-tool depends on the specific tasks you find yourself doing often, but having one ready, whether it’s the Wave®+ like mine or a different model, means you’re often just a pocket-reach away from having the tool you need.
I find myself using something from it EVERY DAY.
Leatherman tools are built to last a lifetime, which is exactly what you want for tools that will see hard work on a homestead.
Having a reliable multi-tool like the Leatherman Wave®+ is like having a mini-toolbox constantly with you, ready to help you turn those homesteading dreams into reality, one task at a time.
