Waaaaaay back in the 1990s, Missy and I traveled to a family event in Texas. We weren’t far in when we started noticing metal buildings… metal buildings being used as HOUSES!

They can be seen everywhere now but back then, they hadn’t made it to Tennessee yet, at least not to our area.
They were AWESOME! We saw a few different colors and even some with stone halfway up the exterior. Some had porches, some gables. We fell in love with the idea of having a ‘Metal-Building’ House (the term ‘Barndominium’ hadn’t been thought of yet).
Easy to build and very little upkeep. We were hooked and talked about building one for yeeeeeaars.
Well, the time has come… finally.
As we look toward retirement and (more than likely) stay put one last time, we are diving into the world of Metal-Building houses and our very own Barndominium.
Our first challenge was to decide what size we needed. ‘Needed’ being the key word. Oh yes, there is the temptation to have that large bedroom, large living room, aaaand theater room, indoor pool, tennis courts, sauna, arboretum, observatory, Colosseum for chariot racing, and I suppose, a dining room. That may be what we want. What we need is quite another thing altogether.
It’s just Missy and me. We have company two or three times a year who may stay no more than three days or so. The rest of the year it’s just us (and Mosley).

After much prayer and discussion… and drawing 5 different plans (of which our sister-in-law drew the first – Thanks, Amber!), we decided all we needed was 1500 square feet.
Then we decided there was not enough storage space, aka closets for junk, in 1500 so we upped it to 1800.
Then logic, and The Lord, told us all we NEED is 1500.
1500 it is. We chose one more plan and I just finished drawing it last weekend (The time of this writing is 02/12/2025).
WE’RE READY!!!!!!!
…the weather is not.
Hang in there with us while we wait for the ground to dry out.
As they say in showbusiness… Stay Tuned.
