Thanksgiving Table 2008

As November quickly approaches, my thoughts turn toward Thanksgiving. I have some great memories of Thanksgivings past, memories I wouldn’t take anything for.

The kitchen was the focal point of the house at Thanksgiving. From L to R Nanny, Missy, Len, & Laurine, 2008.

Memories of when Jayd, Nanny, and Laurine were still here with us. The food, the smells, the games, the laughter, all surrounding the kitchen. The only thing Missy enjoys more than cooking is cooking for other people. To this day, it thrills her soul to be asked to cook something for someone. Especially now that she doesn’t have Jayd to cook for. It blesses her heart to cook something special for someone else.

I, of course, love to eat it! Just looking at these pictures reminds me of so many Thanksgivings of the past. I can smell the turkey, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, candied sweet potatoes, and pecan pie. …Ok, I’ll be right back. I have to go get something to eat.

It’s funny how certain foods and smells can take you right back to a time when everyone was together and we had so much fun. It’s funny how even sounds like certain songs of the various holidays can take me right back to a different time and place.

It’s not just about the food, it is about certain kinds of foods. Foods we had every year. Memories are tied to those foods.

Jayd and (then little) Leonard entwined in a Thanksgiving wrestling match!

Thanksgiving, like every other holiday we have so many family traditions and memories tied to, will never be the same this side of Heaven.

Missy with her decorated table, ready to receive the feast!!!

My point in all that is to enjoy every one of them now.

Who can you still spend Thanksgiving with that share the same traditions and memories?

Lord bless you and yours, Kyle.
