Finding Simple, Natural Remedies in a Complicated World

Hello There!

In this crazy world we’re living in, I find myself increasingly drawn to simple, DIY, and holistic ways to care for our bodies. Over the years, I’ve realized just how many lotions, medicines, and “quick fixes” are filled with chemicals, toxins, and side effects that often cause more harm than good. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather reach for something natural whenever possible—even if it takes a little more patience.

For me, that means looking for old-fashioned cures and remedies, things that our grandparents or great-grandparents might have used before pharmacies and drugstore shelves were filled with a wide range of options. It’s not about throwing away modern medicine altogether—it’s about having healthier, gentler tools we can use in our everyday lives.

Recently on our channel, I shared a reel featuring one of these simple DIY remedies. I actually learned it from a man who used to live in an Amish community, and it caught my attention because it’s only three ingredients. No long shopping list, no hard-to-find items—just something practical you can make at home. And best of all? It really does help with sore joints, stiffness, and inflammation.

DIY Avocado Seed Remedy for Aches & Joint Pain

Disclaimer: This remedy is for topical use only. It is not meant to be ingested. Always check with your doctor before trying new remedies, especially if you have medical conditions or are on prescription medication.

What You’ll Need:

  • 91% rubbing alcohol
  • 1 avocado seed, preferably from an organic avocado (washed and dried for a couple of days)
  • Filtered water
  • A pint mason jar with a lid

How to Make It:

  1. Once your avocado seed is fully dry, grate, shred, or finely chop it.
  2. Place the seed pieces into your mason jar.
  3. Fill the jar just over halfway with rubbing alcohol.
  4. Top off the jar with filtered water, leaving a little space at the top.
  5. Secure the lid and shake well.
  6. Let it sit for several days, shaking it now and then.

How to Use It:

Whenever you have sore muscles, stiff joints, or inflammation, apply a little of the mixture to the area and gently rub it in. Remember—this is a topical remedy only, never to be taken internally. It is not recommended to apply to sensitive areas.

A Note on Patience

One thing I’ve learned about DIY and natural remedies is that they don’t always work instantly. They aren’t packed with harsh chemicals designed to deliver quick (but often temporary) relief. Instead, they work more gently and often take a little time and consistency to notice results. If you stick with it, though, the benefits can be lasting—and without the long list of side effects.

Why I Love Sharing These

Trying remedies like this is part of our homesteading journey. It’s about learning to rely less on convenience and more on the simple, natural things God has already provided. And honestly, there’s something comforting about taking care of your family with ingredients that are safe, frugal, and effective.

As fall settles in, I’ll be sharing more of these DIY recipes and natural remedies. From herbal teas to homemade salves and old-time tonics, I love experimenting, learning, and passing along what works for us.

If you give this avocado seed remedy a try, I’d love to hear how it works for you. Sometimes the best cures are the ones that have been around the longest. 🌿

Lord Bless You, Michelle
