Hello fellow Semi Homesteaders! Kyle here.

Now that we’ve tackled the big jobs outside—things like clearing debris from the mower spindles, getting the air filter blown out after use, and stabilizing or draining the fuel before storage—it’s time to shift our focus inside. If you’re anything like Missy, you’re already enjoying those “crisp fall nights” and maybe even whipping up some of those famous “Autumn One-Pan Meals”. But for us, that cool air is a clear signal: preparation time isn’t over!

My last post dealt entirely with outdoor fall maintenance, covering essential tasks like ensuring those gutters are clear to prevent ice dams, inspecting the roof for damaged shingles, and shutting off outdoor spigots before draining and storing hoses. We also made sure to trim trees and shrubs, especially near the house and power lines.

The plan for this next post, as promised, was to deal specifically with indoor maintenance. However, while the shift to indoor prep is definitely the right move as the snow starts flying, the specific checklist of tasks for inside the home is not detailed in the current preparation guide.

We know the core principle remains the same: a little hard work now means a lot more simple joy and fewer unexpected repairs when those truly cold days hit. It’s all about striking that perfect balance between modern life and applying those old-fashioned skills.

So, grab your coffee and get ready—we’re preparing for that cozy winter!

Here’s a thorough checklist of indoor maintenance tasks to get your home ready for fall and winter. I kept it practical and seasonal:
